Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct care and supervision of residents and observes and reports resident conditions to the Individual Service Plan Team.
Essential Functions
- Provide compassionate and safe care for all Alegria residents.
- Respond to clients needs promptly, professionally, and with courtesy.
- Provide care and supervision to residents as indicated in their Individual Service Plan including assistance with monitoring vital signs.
- Record signs and symptoms of illness and ambulation
- Recognize the need for assistance and or medical intervention, and take action when necessary.
- Monitor resident’s vitals, call the physician, call 911 or send to ER via taxi or ambulance as needed.
- Follow all Alegria policies and procedures.
- Directly observe resident taking their medication, follow medication policy and report procedure problems to the Registered Nurse.
- Weigh designated residents weekly and all others once a month; report significant weight changes to Registered Nurse.
- Complete end-of-shift report of residents and house activity to the oncoming shift and management staff.
- Monitor the house and residents, make rounds at least every hour and more often if necessary.
- Document in shift report positive and negative observations and interactions.
- Document in shift report any unusual occurrences, incidents, and injuries.
- Ensure that resident’s rooms are neat and clean and that hallways are free of obstacles and other safety hazards.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations and monitor residents for potential risk of suicide, depression or illness.
- Maintain resident confidentiality at all times.
- Attend all staff meetings, training courses and workshops.
- Maintain positive working relations with residents, staff, volunteers, Salvation Army representatives, and representatives from other agencies.
- Demonstrate self-direction and initiative in prioritizing, organizing and completing job responsibilities.
- Collect urine accurately for drug testing as directed and as necessary.
- Answer phones in courteous and professional manner. Take accurate and complete messages, relay messages to residents in prompt and accurate manner
- Provide assistance to residents with housekeeping and laundry when needed.
- Perform other duties as necessary
Minimum Qualifications
- High School education or the equivalent.
- California Home Health Aid or Nursing Assistant
- Basic information on blood borne infection and universal precautions including the use of protective devices.
- Must pass criminal background check
- BCLS and Red Cross Certification
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Must be culturally sensitive and non-judgmental
- Knowledge and sensitivity regarding issues of homelessness and/or HIV/AIDS
- Basic knowledge of the care needs of HIV individuals.
- Ability to work with diverse populations in a caring, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
