Job Summary
Operates the heart/lung machine required for: total or partial cardiopulmonary bypass for surgical correction of various types of cardiac defects and surgical repair of diseases of the heart and abnormalities of the great vessels.
Responsibilities
- Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Patient Health Care Initiate emergency procedures (including CPR) and provide emergency patient treatment.
- Patient Procedures and Activities.
- Assist physician in developing new techniques and procedures.
- Assist provider in patient examinations and procedure.
- Consult with provider concerning procedures and patient condition.
- Follow standard infection control procedures.
- Monitor and evaluate test readings during procedures.
- Observe, monitor, and evaluate patient conditions during and after procedures.
- Take, record, and monitor patient vital signs.
- Transport patients to/from procedure area.
- Assist in cardiovascular procedures.
- Perform electrocardiograms.
- Draw arterial blood samples.
- Assist in insertion/removal of intra-aortic balloon in cardiac surgery.
- Perform computation of flow rates and dosages during surgical procedures.
- Administer solutions; withdraw and analyze specimens.
- Administer physician-ordered medications and solutions during procedures on bypass Monitor I.V.Solutions.
- Make up cardioplegia solutions for each case.
- Laboratories - Clean work area.
- Records and Patient Information - Record and chart patient date.
- Review patient charts to evaluate patients and identify significant conditions.
- Consult with physician concerning test results and alert physicians to positive test results or test abnormalities.
- Equipment and Instruments.
- Calibrate and adjust equipment in preparation for and during procedures.
- Check emergency equipment.
- Load paper and tape into computer printer.
- Select and set out appropriate tubings and sterile supplies.
- Operate heart/lung machine during surgical procedure.
- Arrange for repair of equipment Inspect equipment and instruments for damage.
- Check stock and order equipment, fluids.
- Re-sterilize equipment.
- Administrative and Other.
- Maintain current licensure/certifications.
- Maintain proficiency in clinical skills.

- Includes logs, lab slips, charts, forms, requisitions, filing and scheduling appointments.

- Including Emergency patient care services and other unscheduled care.
- Cleaning 3%:
- Includes sterilization, work area, soaking instruments and decontamination
Basic Qualifications:
- Three (3) years recent experience in Cardiac Perfusion required.
- Graduate from an accredited school of clinical perfusion.
- Basic Life Support
- Clinical Perfusionist Certificate from American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of cardiac transducers, monitoring systems, cell savers, auto transfusion devices, cardiopulmonary bypass pump, EKG strip recorders and other cardiovascular intraoperative equipment and related supplies.
- Must be proficient in current perfusion techniques, including antegrade cerebral perfusion.
Notes:
- The estimated start date for this position is October 2026.
- Stand by shifts are required on weekends and holidays, and during off‑hours, with the ability to report to work within 30 minutes.
- During the first six months, the employee will be required to temporarily and intermittently work at location(s) outside Orange County
Pay: $95.79 - $127.50 per hour
