Qualifications: Current and valid California Phlebotomy Licensure required. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong communication skills; both written and verbal. Ability to work independently or in a team environment. Comfortable working under minimal supervision
Work Expectations: Excellent phlebotomy skills including difficult draws. Demonstrates good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to manage concerns of patients in a professional manner. Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting. Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements; weekends, holidays, on call, overtime and rotating between other HRC sites.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the collection and processing of blood specimens in a safe, accurate and professional manner following established practices and procedures.
- Interacts with all types of patients in a pleasant, efficient and cooperative manner.
- Maintains required records and documentation.
- Demonstrates organizational commitment and promotes a positive image to patients, clients, employees and the public in general.
- Greets clients appropriately. Treat all clients in a courteous manner.
- Performs daily phlebotomy and specimen processing activities accurately, on time and according to established procedures.
- Monitor patients for unexpected reactions and responds to emergency situations when needed.
- Verify with doctors or clinical personnel to confirm verbal orders, test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes.
- Researches test/client information utilizing computer systems or Directory of Service.
- Accurately label, centrifuge, aliquot, freeze and/or package specimens for transport as required by test order.
- Maintains required records and documentation.
- Assists with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform computer functions accurately.
- Takes inventory of supply. Stock supplies as needed.
- Performs other department-related clerical duties when assigned.
- Demonstrates organizational commitment.
- Demonstrates the flexibility to adjust schedule in response to fluctuations in the workload. Notifies supervisor of work completion, and reports for additional assignments.
- Assists other clinical staff when necessary.
- Adheres to HRC Policies & Procedures. Follows the guidelines for attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
- Maintains a safe, clean and organized work area. Disposes of hazardous material properly per department and manufacturers’ guidelines
- Provides excellent customer service and demonstrates a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality. Must interact with internal and external customers with courtesy and respect. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with co-workers.
- Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, by incorporating company name, self-identification and a helpful statement.
- Communicates appropriately with clients, patients, coworkers and the general public.
- Communicates all unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate manager or supervisor for resolutions.
- Participates on teams and special projects when asked.
- All other projects or duties as assigned, within scope of position.
